Resists Oil Breakdown
AMSOIL XL (Extended Life) Synthetic Motor Oil maintains its lubricating properties (viscosity) even under severe conditions such as extended high-temperature operation—conditions that typically cause conventional motor oils to degrade. When oil breaks down, its viscosity can increase dramatically, leading to higher oil consumption, engine deposits, increased wear, and harder starts.
In the GMOD (GM Oxidation and Deposit) Test, conducted using a 5.7L V8 engine at 100°C for 100 hours, AMSOIL XL showed 64% better viscosity control compared to an oil that reached Breakdown 1 level, as defined by the GM dexos1 Gen 2 specification. This proves that AMSOIL XL performs exceptionally well under high-temperature stress.
Protection Against LSPI (Low-Speed Pre-Ignition)
AMSOIL XL features a unique chemical formulation that protects your engine from the damaging effects of LSPI—an early combustion event that frequently affects modern turbocharged, direct-injection engines. LSPI can lead to catastrophic damage to pistons and cylinders. AMSOIL XL has been specially engineered to reduce LSPI, and it passed the GM dexos1 Gen 2 test 100%—zero LSPI occurrences in 5 consecutive rounds.
Cleaner Engine
AMSOIL XL incorporates premium additives such as detergents, sludge inhibitors, and anti-corrosion agents. These help keep the engine cleaner by reducing carbon deposits, neutralizing acids, and resisting sludge formation. The oil’s increased Total Base Number (TBN) helps neutralize combustion byproducts, resulting in up to 25% cleaner engine performance, promoting smoother engine operation and long-term reliability.
Cost Savings Through Extended Drain Intervals
AMSOIL XL is formulated for extended drain intervals of up to 32,000 kilometers (20,000 miles) or one year, whichever comes first. This helps reduce the frequency and cost of oil changes, minimizes downtime at service centers, saves money, and decreases waste oil generation and emissions.

SERVICE LIFE
Normal Service – Up to 20,000 miles (32,000 km) or one year, whichever comes first, in personal vehicles not operating under severe service.
Severe Service – Up to 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or one year, whichever comes first. Severe service conditions include commercial or fleet ve-hicles; excessive idling; or frequent towing, hauling, plowing or driving in dusty conditions.• Modified engines (non-stock), racing vehicles and vehicles using alternative fuels (E85, CNG, propane, etc.) are excluded from extended drain interval recommendations.• Change at the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended drain interval outside U.S. and Canada.
• AMSOIL Oil Filters are designed for extended drain intervals. Do not exceed 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or one year with other brand filters unless longer intervals are recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
Always change filter when changing oil.
• Check oil regularly to maintain proper fill levels. AMSOIL Oil Filters stop smaller particles, flow more oil and last longer than regular filters.
